Myers Songwriting Workshops
This
year sees the start of our first series of Songwriting
Workshops here at
Tinman Sound Recording Studios in the
Algarve, one of the most beautiful and tranquil places in Portugal.
It's a
haven, a schoolroom and a retreat. Whether you've never
written a song in your life, or you are a professional needing
a little bump, we'd love to share our knowledge, experience
and this amazing place with you.
Four Day Course
You'll work both in small group
discussions with Martin (Spida) Carter and 'one-on-one' with multi award winning songwriter
Mike
Myers.
Each
workshop is limited to just six participants and lasts
for four days, so you'll have plenty of time to work closely
with us on songs.
You'll
be covering: Groove Writing, Melody
Writing, Lyric Writing, Title, Prosody, Delivery, Structure
and Rhythm, Brainstorming Techniques, Demos etc. Participants
of the four day course will also have use of the studio to record their
songs.
Weekend
Starter Course
Want to be able to write your own material to a professional standard and get a head start into making your songs work for you?
This short
course will put you on the right track.
You'll learn
about: Songwriting Topics and Techniques, Lyric Writing Topics including setting words to music and vice versa.
 What
is the age group? Do I have to be experienced?
It is hoped that the workshops will encourage and provide a great opportunity for
experienced and less experienced participants, as well as young and older participants.
To collaborate with each other and to create a meaningful and tangible sense of continuity across generations through songs, with
people wanting to learn from the more experienced and the other way around.
The work will be genuinely collaborative, leading towards an exchange of creativity, learning and cultural enlightenment.
The course is designed to give everyone a chance to work on
and perform their songs and receive feedback from
instructors and peers. Local conditions permitting, participants
may also have the opportunity to perform songs on open mic night.

Where
are the workshops?
The Songwriting Workshops are at Tinman Sound Recording Studios
which is located at "Quinta Da Figuerinha" in Silves, close to Silves Castle, in the Algarve Portugal. The studio is surrounded by fields and orchards, nestling in 36 hectares of bio-agricultural farmland, with beautiful beaches only minutes away. The international Airport at Faro can be reached by car in 45 minutes.
Where will I eat and sleep? [Four Day Course only]
There are several apartments and a spacious house at Quinta De
Figuerinha to accommodate visiting participants, including 1
free guest (see Fees below). Extended
stays at the Quinta can also be arranged at enrollment time,
subject to availability. Our bar restaurant offers a full menu, with lunches and evening
meals (breakfast on request). Most program participants elect to stay
at the Quinta, however, alternative accommodation can be
arranged locally.
Who are the instructors?
There will be two members of Tinman's talented and experienced Songwriting
Team who
will teach the classes and workshops; Martin "Spida" Carter
who started out on the Folk scene and later recorded with Mickey Most at Rak Records, London and Carrera Records, Switzerland where
he collaborated with Patrick Moraz of the Moody Blues.

What's the schedule? [Four Day Course]
After registration you will be provided with a list of the workshop's
classes and times, so you may select and attend those classes that interest you.
There will be a maximum of 6 participants.
Notification of Enrollment
& Payment
Participants will receive an email, together with payment
instructions for the application fee, within seven to ten business
days of their application. Once we receive payment, participants
will be sent an email containing confirmation of enrollment, detailed
arrival, travel and program information.
Am I eligible?
To participate, you must be at least 15 years old by the start of the program. The classes are designed
for songwriters of all experience
levels and ages.
